CRIMINAL DEFENCE
ADVICE AND REPRESENTATION AT THE POLICE STATION
What happens at the Police Station
You are entitled to free and independent legal advice if you are detained or
interviewed in a police station. This can be a very stressful, and often lengthy process. If you have someone on your side who can provide advice and representation from the outset and who knows the system, it is often the difference between being charged and no further action being taken. Charles Hart is a Duty Solicitor with 25 years experience in this field.
ADVICE AND REPRESENTATION IN THE MAGISTRATES (AND YOUTH) COURT
How the Magistrates Court works
How the Youth Court works
When you are charged with an offence your case will first be heard in the
Magistrates Court, although it could be later transferred to the Crown Court. Most minor offences, however, are heard and concluded in the Magistrates Court.
Charles Hart regularly appears in local Magistrates Courts. He provides advice with regard to the strength of the prosecution evidence, whether to enter a guilty or a not guilty plea, issues to be addressed in order to be successful at trial and the likely sentence if convicted.
He is also a Court Duty Solicitor which means he provides defendants who have not already instructed a solicitor with advice and representation at court under the Court Duty Solicitor Scheme. This service is free of charge.
ADVICE AND REPRESENTATION IN THE CROWN COURT How the Crown Court works
Charles Hart is a Solicitor Advocate with higher rights of audience in the Crown Court. This means that he has experience of representing clients before a judge in the Crown Court. We also have close links with barristers’ chambers in the local area.
If your case is one which may proceed to the Crown Court then we will provide advice in relation to that decision and the procedures involved and provide you with representation which will give you the best chance of success in the Crown Court.
MOTORING OFFENCES
Legal Aid is not usually available for most motoring cases (with the exception being Dangerous Driving and Causing Death by Dangerous Driving).
We try to keep our fees competitive, and offer a fixed fee wherever possible, so that you need not be concerned about fees mounting up.
